MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE PAELLA CHALLENGE

This one-day community event will highlight the quintessential dish of Spain with a Paella Challenge. Year after year, the Paella Challenge brings together celebrity chefs from all over the country and Latin America to compete in an Iron Chef-style paella competition. The afternoon will be filled with live entertainment, wines from Spain, sangria, and the very best in culinary creativity. Our event was designed to create awareness within the San Antonio corporate community of the tremendous need to support young culinarians as they pursue careers in the growing food industry. We will be cooking for over 3,000 food enthusiasts and our goal is to raise funds for Kitchen Campus’ programming and further foster the growth and development of our city’s aspiring culinarians.

ABOUT KITCHEN CAMPUS

OUR MISSION

Kitchen Campus is a nonprofit organization, established in 2014 by Chef Johnny Hernandez, with a mission to connect today’s youth to culinary opportunities through education and advocacy.

Kitchen Campus is an Out-of-School Time program that provides middle and high school age students with an opportunity to learn about food, nutrition, and cooking while exploring careers in the culinary industry. Activities include hands-on cooking classes, lectures, field trips and guest chef workshops. Kitchen Campus works on behalf of local students who may not otherwise have the funds, access to resources, or the mentors necessary to help guide them to financial success through culinary arts.

OUR VISION

Nearly half of San Antonio area students face obstacles to academic success. About 54% of high school graduates go directly to college, and four out of ten won’t ever finish. The vision of The Kitchen Campus is financial success through culinary arts. Program graduates will thrive – prepared to succeed with basic cooking skills and nutrition education, knowledge of the food industry, and leadership experience that empowers them to make a difference in their community.
